The terms that come up on every call, defined plainly.

Eighteen definitions, no jargon defended for its own sake. If a term below is being used on you without explanation, that is usually worth asking about.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

The practice of structuring a business so that AI assistants name it when someone asks them for a recommendation.

Traditional SEO competes for ten blue links. An AI assistant asked "who should I call" names two or three businesses. Being fourth-best has a very different consequence in the second case.

Local SEO

Everything that decides whether a business appears when someone nearby searches for what it sells — chiefly the Google Business Profile, location signals on the website, and reviews.

For a service business, local SEO usually moves more revenue than everything else combined. It is also the part most often left half-configured.

Map pack

The block of three local businesses shown on a map above the ordinary results for a local search.

Three slots, and they take the majority of the clicks. In a crowded category like dentistry or auto repair, map pack position is close to the whole competition.

Google Business Profile

The free listing that controls how a business appears in Google Search and Google Maps, including its category, hours, service area, photos and reviews.

It is the single highest-leverage asset a local business owns, and it is free. A profile in the wrong primary category can suppress a business that is otherwise doing everything right.

Service-area business

A business that travels to its customers rather than serving them at a storefront, and that therefore publishes a service radius instead of a street address.

Configured as a storefront by mistake, a service-area business becomes invisible outside its own postcode. Sun Coast Digital is itself a service-area business.

NAP consistency

Using an identical business name, address and phone number in every place the business appears online.

A second phone number floating around on old listings splits one strong business into two weak ones as far as search engines are concerned. It is boring, and it is worth fixing first.

Entity

The single real-world organisation that a search or AI system believes all the mentions of a name refer to.

When two companies share a similar name, systems can merge or confuse them. Sun Coast Digital publishes an explicit disambiguation separating it from Sun Coast Media Group for exactly this reason.

Schema markup

Structured data embedded in a page that states in machine-readable form what the page is about — the business, its services, its prices, its reviews.

It is the difference between a machine guessing what a business does and being told. Every page Sun Coast builds ships with it.

llms.txt

A plain-text file at the root of a website that summarises the whole site for large language models, in the way robots.txt addresses crawlers.

It is a convention rather than an enforced standard, but it costs nothing and it gives an AI system a clean, unambiguous version of the facts.

The website

Core Web Vitals

Google's measurements of how quickly a page becomes usable, how stable it is while loading, and how fast it responds to a tap.

A slow site loses customers before it loses rankings. On a phone in a driveway on a marginal signal, a heavy page-builder theme simply does not open.

AI extractability

How easily a machine can read a page and pull an accurate, quotable statement out of it.

A key fact locked inside an image, a slider, or a script that only runs on click is invisible to the systems increasingly deciding who gets recommended.

Conversion rate

The share of visitors who do the thing the page exists for — call, book, submit the form.

Doubling traffic and doubling conversion rate produce the same revenue, but one of them is usually much cheaper. It is the first place to look before buying more clicks.

Advertising & social

Managed ad budget

Advertising money that sits inside a flat monthly price and is planned, run and optimised by the agency, rather than billed to the client separately.

It is the reason a Sun Coast Growth plan has one number on it. The client never receives a surprise advertising invoice.

Retargeting

Showing ads specifically to people who have already visited the website or engaged with the business.

It is almost always the cheapest advertising a small business can run, because the audience has already raised its hand once.

Review velocity

The rate at which a business earns new reviews over time, as distinct from its total count or average score.

A steady trickle of recent reviews outperforms a large pile that stopped two years ago. Recency is a signal in its own right.

AI services

3 terms

AI voice assistant

A voice agent trained on a specific business that answers its phone, understands the request, books into the calendar, updates the CRM and logs the call.

For trades and home services, the missed call is the lost job. A voice assistant answers on the first ring at 7pm on a Sunday.

AI lead generation agent

An always-on system that searches for local prospects matching an ideal customer profile, scores each one for fit, and alerts the owner when a strong one appears.

It replaces bought cold lists with a scored shortlist the business owns. Volume was never the problem; fit was.

Implement-before-sell

The rule that Sun Coast Digital runs a system inside its own business before offering it to a client.

It is why there is a short list of AI services rather than a long one. If it has not survived contact with our own operations, it is not for sale.
